Personal Training
For the past few years, Personal Training has become the “in” thing to do. With fads like Pilates, Yoga, and Core Training, everyone has jumped into the ring to be part of the action. Truth be known, there are over 400 personal trainer certifications out there and many Trainers have taken nothing more than a weekend course to become, what we call at Advanced Fitness and Performance, a "weekend personal trainer." Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware), the individual that is interested in health and fitness needs to look very closely at whom they choose as their personal trainer. At Advanced Fitness and Performance things are done differently!
All of the Staff at Advanced Fitness and Performance have 4 year college degrees and are either certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist OR the American College of Sports Medicine as Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist. We will not put you in a machine and count to 12, as is typically done by many weekend personal trainers. At AFP, our trainers evaluate our clients’ needs, goals, and abilities using a scientific approach to develop a safe training plan that delivers top results for all ages and ability levels.
Here at AFP, we believe -and research tells us- that strength is our number one concern. As we grow older, many of our problems are caused by lack of muscle strength. For example, many back problems can be lessened or completely eliminated by proper strength training. To make gains in muscular strength our clients need to in a 4-6 rep range for muscles to adapt and become stronger. In the strength and conditioning world this repetition range is called a Strength Range. When other trainers work clients in a 10-12 repetition range it is called Hypertrophy. Contrary to what is believed, lifting heavier weights WILL NOT make you LARGER. Actually, working your muscles in a Hypertrophy range gives the muscle stimulus to become bulky. SO, next time you hear or see a trainer telling you that when you do more repetitions you "tone" the muscle, you will know that they are nothing more than a "weekend personal trainer".
